This is an independent storm tracker, not a government service or an official weather agency.

Information used to run the site

Our hosting and security services process technical information such as your IP address, requested pages, request times, browser details and referring page. This supports delivery, troubleshooting and protection against abuse. Session records may also contain IP addresses and browser details. We do not ask your browser for precise GPS location.

The site is hosted on Vultr and uses Cloudflare for delivery and security. Cloudflare may also provide traffic statistics and use security cookies. See Vultr’s privacy policy and Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Cookies and saved preferences

Session and security cookies support site functions and protect requests. Their lifetime depends on the session and security service involved.

Your unit choice, light/dark theme, motion preference and per-storm preparation checklist are saved in your browser’s local storage. These preferences remain until you change them or clear site data. Clearing browser cookies and site data also resets saved preferences and may sign you out of any editor account.

Site usage statistics

Our first-party interaction analytics are currently disabled. Hosting and Cloudflare traffic and security records are separate and may still be processed.

“Viewing now” counter

A separate first-party counter estimates browser sessions active in the last two minutes. Visible pages send a heartbeat about once a minute. Counter records contain only the storm ID, a keyed hash of the existing session ID and the last heartbeat time—not IP addresses, page history or contact details. Expired records are excluded immediately and scheduled for deletion every minute. No additional browser identifier is created. Browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals disable participation. Ordinary hosting and session records described above are separate.

Maps, posts, videos and external links

Interactive maps request map data from OpenFreeMap or the map provider credited on the map. Playing a NOAA satellite loop connects to NOAA. Those providers receive normal connection information, including your IP address. Saved official still images are served by this site.

X posts embedded in our feeds load automatically and connect to X, which may receive your IP address and browser information and use its own cookies or storage. YouTube videos connect to Google only when you select “Load video”. Embedded media does not grant permission for advertising elsewhere on this site. Original source links remain available if an embed cannot load.

Removing an embed removes its visible player, but does not erase information already sent or cookies already set. Reload the page to end scripts loaded for that visit; use your browser and provider settings to manage their stored data. See X’s privacy policy and Google’s privacy policy. External links open services with their own policies.

If you contact the operator, your message and contact details are used to respond and handle your request.

Retention, access and international processing

Technical records, messages and any enabled analytics have different retention periods depending on their purpose and the service involved. Browser preferences remain under your control. This policy does not promise automatic deletion after a fixed period. Contact the operator to ask what records are held and request deletion where applicable.

Authorized operators and service providers may access information to operate and secure the site, respond to requests or meet legal obligations. Providers may process information outside your country, including in the United States. Their privacy policies describe their processing and safeguards.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, or opt out of certain advertising uses. You may also be able to complain to your local privacy regulator. Contact the operator using the details above; we may need information to verify and locate your request.

Policy changes

We will update this page when the site’s data practices change and revise the date above. New purposes that require consent need a new choice, not just a change to this page.
